This large salad bowl is made from a rowan tree that had to be felled in our garden. It grew no more than 15m from the workshop in which it was turned. It shows interesting marking with a hint of spalting. The contrast between the light sapwood and the heartwood adds interest.
The bowl is finished with walnut oil and beeswax making it suitable for handling food.
The bowl can be washed but it should not be exposed to harsh detergents. It should be hand dried. It should definitely not be put in the dishwasher. If the finish becomes tired looking a fresh application of any food-safe wood finish such as is used for cutting boards can be applied.
The bowl is approximately 250mm (10″) in diameter and 125mm (5″) in height.
